The Best Laid Plans

Well, yes, the plan WAS to get all of the history in before the mundane day-to-day stuff. BUT if I do that, I don't know that I'll ever get caught up!

Today's Wednesday. This week Mr. W. has been SuperNorm already!

We have a covered deck in the back of our house, nice straight lines, a nice place to hang out. The problem with the deck (other than the fact it really, really needs staining and sealing) is that the balusters - I think that's what the up-and-down slat things are called - are too far apart. Now, they look okay, but our sweet little pudgy pooch is apparently not quite so pudgy that she can't fit through the opening between slats.

The first day she was here, we went out onto the deck, she got a whiff of something interesting coming from Katie's house, and OFF she went! Fortunately, she wasn't at a dead run, so I didn't have to vault over the railing (THERE is a visual, eh?), but it was enough to get MY adrenaline going! Imagine... our first day here with the baby dog and she goes and falls off the cliff (yes, we have a cliff)!! NOT my idea of a good beginning!

Anyway, Mr. W. went down to Home Depot and got a lot of 2x2 cedar stock and an inexpensive miter saw. He did a 45 degree angle on each end (to match the existing balusters), then cut each one to size. He then put a new baluster in between each existing baluster. WAY COOL!

But wait! That's not all! He also took out the baluster that is just next to the steps (down off the deck) and replaced it with a 2x6, to be the support post for a gate! He's got all of the gate cut out (again with the matching angled balusters) and we went to Home Depot today to get the hinges and stuff. He'll finish the gate and hang it in the morning, and THEN our puppy-butt can hang out on the deck all she wants with no leash!! YAYAYAY!

Now, that in itself justifies a SuperNorm for me, but on top of all of THAT, since Monday morning we have also done cleaning, spackling, priming, 2 coats of ceiling paint and 2 coats of wall paint on the second bedroom!
